Make your child’s educational journey their own

How can my child secure a space at Rosewood Virtual Academy?

Here’s how a place at Rosewood Virtual Academy (RVA) is secured.

Routes to a place

Funded through your Local Authority (LA) on the Rosewood Virtual Academy full-time roll (also suitable for children with EHCP)

  • Ask your Local Authority for support to request a change of placement onto the Rosewood Virtual Academy roll.

  • If funding is agreed, we agree a plan, timetable, safeguarding and attendance arrangements with the LA.

Funded through your child’s current school or Local Authority (LA) on the Rosewood Virtual Academy roll as Alternative Provision

  • Ask your current setting’s SENCo/head to request to commission RVA as Alternative Provision (or short/medium-term intensive support).

  • We agree a plan, part-time timetable, safeguarding and attendance arrangements with the school/LA.

  • We will liaise with the referring party (school or LA) at all times for the duration of the placement, ensuring a full oversight of attendance, engagement, and progress.

  • Note: Children who are in care or who have an EHCP are only able to access Rosewood Virtual Academy as Alternative Provision on a part-time basis for up to 15 hours per week, whilst attending their primary school setting, in line with regulations.

Private (parent-funded) placement for homeschooled children.

  • Contact us directly; we’ll assess need and issue a proposal/Service Level Agreement, including costs.

  • We will coordinate with your child’s school/LA if appropriate for safeguarding purposes and exams.

There is currently no requirement for Online Providers to be accredited, but our setting aims to be an accredited provider under the DFE/ Ofsted OEAS scheme by the end of the 2026-2027 academic year.

What we need to set up provision

  • Referral information: recent reports/grades, attendance, ISP/EHCP (if applicable), risk info, and agencies involved. Once this is received, we will advise if we can meet the student’s need. Our ability to meet need includes a variety of factors including needs of the child, requirements of the provision, and availability of our staffing. We may offer a start date in the future (waiting list) if we are unable to offer provision due to staffing only.

  • Parent/carer consentforms

  • Technology check for online learning (device, internet), or a plan for face-to-face if blended.

  • Any access arrangements or reasonable adjustments your child requires.

What happens next

  • Discovery call with you (and the school/LA if commissioned) to confirm goals, hours, and package (virtual, blended, or intensive).

  • Baseline & plan: initial assessment and a Flexible Learning Action Plan with timetable, safeguarding, and attendance coding.

  • Induction: timetables to create an induction suited to the child’s needs.

  • Start of learning: setting up portal access and technology, live lessons, 1:1 support where needed, independent study packs, and weekly key-worker updates via the portal.

Safeguarding, attendance & exams

  • We operate under KCSIE with DSL oversight and daily registers (online and face-to-face).

  • For SEND, we map individual delivery to EHCP Section F, keep ISPs current, and support annual reviews.

  • We can route to GCSE, Functional Skills/NCFE, and ASDAN where appropriate (in coordination with the school/LA). Please note that where it has been approved that we accept RVA candidiates for GCSE or Functional Skills exams, the exams can only be sat within our exam centre in Ashington.
